VOSD News & Happenings | February 2025

We're counting down the months to the beginning of the 2025 summer swim season! We can't wait to be back on the pool deck with you!

Swimtopia: A New 'Look' for 2025!

VOSD is getting a "new look" in 2025 as part of the Prince William Swim League's transition from TeamUnify/OnDeck to a new platform for the 2025 season. The new platform is called Swimtopia, and it will be used for all swim team operations, starting with registration! We think you'll love this new system, and just like TeamUnify, we'll be using it for our website, newsletter, swimmer declarations, volunteer sign-ups, online team store...and more! Stay tuned for more information on how you can set up your account on this new platform! You can get a sneak peek now at www.swimvaoaks.com! The 2025 season information will be posted soon!

Registration Opens March 1

Keep an eye out for registration information. Registration opens March 1 with discounted "early bird" pricing!

Love Working with Numbers?

VOSD is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to "learn the ropes" and train under our current Board member and treasurer Katie Prutzman. If you have a knack for numbers, a commitment to the swim team, and a desire to make a meaningful impact, we would love to hear from you! This is an excellent opportunity to apply your financial expertise while giving back to the community. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a finance enthusiast, your skills can help us make a difference. Interested? Contact treasurer@swimvaoaks.com for more information or to express your interest. We're also looking for assistance with the following volunteer roles:

  • Meet Manager: Plays a crucial role in ensuring meets run efficiently and fairly, creating a positive experience for swimmers, coaches, and families; responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of swim meets during the summer swim season; involves on-site management to ensure a successful and efficient event.
  • Developmental Team Liaison: Serves as a key point of contact between developmental team parents, developmental coaches, and the VOSD board; essential for ensuring clear communication, addressing concerns, and supporting a positive experience for both swimmers and their families; a team-based role, and multiple parents may serve in this capacity to provide well-rounded support.

Seeking Developmental Swim Coach

VOSD is seeking a passionate and experienced Developmental Swim Coach, a paid position, to help young swimmers build foundational skills, improve technique, and develop a love for the sport. This coach will work with beginner to intermediate swimmers, focusing on stroke development, endurance, and confidence in the water while fostering a positive and supportive training environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead structured swim practices that emphasize proper technique, stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and endurance training.
  • Provide individualized feedback and instruction to help swimmers progress at their own pace.
  • Foster a fun, encouraging, and disciplined environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Monitor swimmer progress and communicate effectively with athletes and parents about goals and improvement areas.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times and respond to any emergencies as needed.
  • Collaborate with other coaches to align training programs with the overall team philosophy and competitive goals.
  • Attend swim meets and provide on-deck coaching, motivation, and technical feedback.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in coaching or competitive swimming, preferably at the developmental or age-group level.
  • Knowledge of stroke mechanics, training techniques, and swimmer development principles.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills to engage and inspire young athletes.
  • Ability to create structured and progressive training plans for various skill levels.
  • Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • USA Swimming coaching certification (preferred or required, depending on organization).

Sponsor Search

Do you own a business? Know someone who does? VOSD would love your company's support as we provide a memory-making swimming experience to 200+ resident and non-resident swimmers and their families.

When you sponsor our team, we are able to purchase team equipment, trophies/ribbons, pay coach salaries, pay league fees and fund social events for our young swimmers. We believe these programs will give families an affordable way to keep kids safe in the water and foster the love of swimming for years to come.
