VOSD News & Updates: The Countdown Continues!
The countdown continues! We are just over 2 weeks from the start of summer swim season, and we can't wait to see you!
Know Your Practice Days/Times. Evening practices begin on Wednesday, May 27th, and feature a new format this year. Evening practices will only be offered two nights per week -- either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, depending on your child's age. Please see below for your swimmer's practice schedule.
- Monday/Wednesday
- 6:45-7:30pm - Age Group 8
- 7:30-8:15pm - Age Group 9-10 (A/B)**
- 8:15-9:00pm - Age Group 11-12
- Tuesday/Thursday
- 6:45-7:30pm - Age Group 6-7
- 7:30-8:15pm - Age Group 9-10 (A/B)**
- 8:15-9:00pm - Age Group 13-18
**The 9-10 age group is designated A/B. Swimmers will be assigned to either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs. Efforts will be made to assign A/B swimmers to the same night as their younger or older sibling(s). Assignments will be emailed to families before the first night of practice.
Morning practice will be offered daily for all age groups and will begin the week of June 15th.
Save the Date: Time Trials (May 30th, 8am). Time trials are early this year, so take note! Every swimmer is encouraged to attend Time Trials, even if your swimmer only knows the freestyle. Time trials allow each swimmer to get a baseline time for each stroke they can swim. These times will be used by coaches for entering swimmers in individual and relay events at meets and will help with “seeding” these swimmers against swimmers of similar times. Since time trials are run very much like a real meet, it’s also a great "dress rehearsal"! More information about "declaring" (RSVP'ing) for meets, including Time Trials, will be sent out next weekend!
Find Your Volunteer Role. Summer swim is not a spectator sport! From timers to concessions to parking attendants, it takes a village of volunteers to host a successful swim meet. For every meet your swimmer attends, you will be required to volunteer at least one shift during that meet. If you do not fulfill this obligation and do not make arrangements with the Volunteer Coordinator by Friday, you will receive a warning, and your swimmer will be unable to swim in the following week's meet. A second offense will result in a $250 fee that will be charged to your credit card. Take this opportunity to learn about all the volunteer positions!
Get excited!!! This is going to be a great summer!
